3 Unique Guided Tours in Northern California

There are many traditional ways to experience the majestic Redwood National Park and the breathtaking North Coast of California. We suggest thinking outside the box on your upcoming visit to Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals. Our newly renovated and meticulously cleaned vacation homes are always a short drive from one of northern California’s premier guided tours. Whether you’re aiming to spend time on the beach, in the Redwoods near Orick CA, or rafting down the Trinity River, we have the ideal property to suit your group or family.

Just as important as selecting the perfect vacation home is discovering the ideal way to spend each day here in northern California. We suggest spending an unforgettable afternoon on horseback through the Redwood National Park, whitewater rafting down the Trinity River, and voyaging on the only oyster farm boat tour in California.

Horseback Riding in the Redwoods

orick caWe don’t want to oversell this once-in-a-lifetime experience, but horseback riding through the Redwood National Park with Redwood Creek Buckarettes is one of the premier guided tours in the world. The tours begin in Orick CA; we recommend the four-hour Picnic Tour. Hop aboard a gentle, beautiful horse and trek under the world’s tallest trees. You’ll learn local history, witness tranquil wildlife, and discuss the stunning flora. Though not guaranteed, your group may be lucky enough to spot a bald eagle, elk, fisher, coyote, bobcat, or river otter. There are dozens of mammals, birds, and fish in this region, so keep your eyes peeled! Lunch will be provided at the midway point. Each guest will have the opportunity to get a picture taken inside a redwood on horseback.

Oyster Tours in Humboldt Bay

orick ca oystersEmbark on a two-hour oyster boat tour in the oyster capital of the world: Humboldt Bay. Humboldt Bay Oyster Tours, based out of the port city of Eureka, collaborates with two nearby restaurants and Captain Sebastian to provide the only oyster boat tour in California. Captain Sebastian from Aqua-Rodeo Farms will guide the two-hour tour, and each participant will have the opportunity to harvest fresh oysters from Humboldt Bay. Participants then return to Humboldt Bay Provisions or Mazzotti’s to try three prepared oysters. Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals has multiple properties in the Eureka area, perfect for a lovely day harvesting oysters, shopping, and surfing.

Whitewater Rafting on the Trinity River

orick ca raftingFor the most extreme northern California experience, seek out a local rafting company for an afternoon run down the Trinity River. Redwoods and Rivers, the most extensive rafting company in the area, provides guided whitewater rafting tours on five rivers. Whether you’re a first-timer looking for a moderate class I run or a seasoned pro aiming at an exhilarating class V run, Redwoods and Rivers have the best tours possible. Six Rivers Rafting Company operates mainly on the Trinity River, one of the best whitewater rafting river in the state. They have tours that range from very relaxing to “you will get soaked.” Also operating out of the Trinity River, Bigfoot Rafting Company offers mostly beginner-friendly tours.

From Green to Yellow

Northern California Landscape. Scenic Vista East From Eureka, Humboldt County, California, United States.

Spring and summer bring a vibrancy of lush, greenery to the Northern California coast. Whether it’s deep in the forest, high above the canopy, or along the walls of Fern Canyon, autumn makes the bright chartreuse and gorgeous viridescent shift to a stunning kaleidoscope of wonderful warm browns, rich purples, and vivacious reds, oranges, and yellows. One of the best times of year to experience this immaculate change is during the harvest season. With California having one of the longest and most diverse fall colors than anywhere else you’ll be surprised to find that at any point during autumn, you can come across a wide array of fall foliage.

While some might assume that the East Coast is where you should be for the fall foliage, truly everywhere along the Northern latitude has the chance to make a memorable impression. The difference in California is that as the elevation drops the colors begin to turn, which means you’ll be able to experience beautiful colors from September through November. The best part is that if you miss peak season on the east, all you have to do is just drive to a lower elevation for you to experience peak season on the west.

According to California Fall Color, right now, the Northern Coast hasn’t begun the transformation into fall, but that means it’s a perfect time to book your redwood forest vacation to ensure you’re here during that peak foliage time! Keep updated with all the fantastic fall foliage reports of California, here!

Before heading home, head north to Klamath, and dine at the Historic Requa Inn.
